RACO CLUB AND MEMBERSHIP

RACO is the Orienteering Section of the Rand Athletic Club (RAC), which is the biggest running club in South Africa. While having close links to the running Club, RACO operates autonomously, with a Committee, a fee structure and its own membership listing. All the rules of Orienteering are governed by the South African Orienteering Federation (SAOF). RACO contributes to Orienteering in South Africa, by organising events on the National and Regional Calendar, in addition to providing it's members with information on all aspects of the sport, as well as unique training opportunities. Several RACO members have previously been selected to represent SA in International competition. Tuesday evenings, starting at 17:45, is regarded as Club Night at RAC. The 5 and 8 km time-trial road running courses are open to all (walkers are also permitted to take part in the 4 km walk that starts at the same time). The time-trial (your own test of fitness and speed) is followed by some pleasant socialising on the lawns (or in the clubhouse in Winter). Showers are also available. RACO'ers regularly frequent the local Pizzeria afterwards.

Any Orienteer is welcome to join the social circle on Tuesday evenings. Membership to RACO - a nominal membership fee is charged (you may also be coerced into buying a T-Shirt !)
